Shri Deepak Thombrehas been recently appointed the Chairman on the Board of Dalmia Bharat Refractories Ltd (DBRL), which is the single consolidated entity post-merger of all the refractory businesses of the Dalmia Bharat Group.
He worked with the Dalmia Bharat Group of Companies for nearly ten years, in various capacities such as the Senior Executive Director, in-charge of Sales and Marketing for cement, Head of group MD’s office leading strategy, Corporate Governance for the Group, before becoming the MD & CEO of Dalmia Refractories Ltd (DRL). Subsequently he became the Chairman of DRL until the recent merger took place.
He has over 40 years of work experience across different types of organizations including reputed multinationals as well as family-owned companies. He has been instrumental in fuelling significant growth by creating new markets, domestic and international, in a highly competitive environment, building high performance teams, putting into place effective systems and processes, leading teams in turnaround situations, driving change-management programs, creating running the Group MD’s office, heading group strategy and corporate governance, supporting joint ventures, creating the Corporate Audit function and leading the P & L of a mid-sized business.
He has worked for many reputed organizations which include MNCs and family-owned companies like, Greaves Foseco Ltd, Dr Beck & Co, Gujarat Carbon Ltd, Tube Investments of India Ltd (Murugappa Group), Andhra Cement Ltd (Duncan Goenka Group), Grindwell Norton Ltd (Saint Gobain Group), Vedanta Group (across all its Non-Ferrous Metals, starting from India Foils, Sterlite Industries, and Hindustan Zinc).
Presently, he works in an independent advisory capacity, as Executive Coach, and sounding board, for CEOs and senior leaders of MNCs, owners of family-owned businesses, apart from being a Mentor and Advisor to start-ups and young entrepreneurs in their family businesses. He advises and supports various mid-sized organizations in addressing key business issues in their growth plans, while helping them to build and articulate their vision, chart out their strategy, create structured business plans and meaningful MIS supported by a strategic business and organizational framework to achieve their growth aspirations.
He is a Mechanical Engineer by qualification from the College of Engineering, Pune, and (1977 Batch). Subsequently completed Masters in Management Studies from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai (1979 Batch). Apart from this, he has attended advanced leadership/ General Management Courses at the Centre for Creative Leadership, USA, London Business School, UK, and IIM (L). He has completed a PG Program in Executive Coaching and has been certified by Coaching Foundation of India (CFI) as a CEO Coach in 2013. He also has a certification in Emotional Intelligence (EQi 2.0 and EQ360) from MHS. He has recently completed a course to become a CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) practitioner and a Life Coach.
