Basin : Baitarani

  • Salandi Irrigation Project was started in 1960 and completed in 1983. The project was constructed on River Salandi of Baitarani River Basin.
  • The districts benefited due to the project are Bhadrak (earlier under undivided Balasore district) and Keonjhar of Orissa.
  • The reservoir of the project was constructed at Hadagad of Keonjhar district. The catchment area at dam site is 260 sq km. The gross storage capacity of the reservoir is 1945 million ac feet and live storage capacity is 13200 million ac ft.
  • The Dam is a composite type with height 48.77 metres and length 640 metres. The MWL of the Reservoir is 273 ft and FRL is 270 feet.
  • Total submerged area due to reservoir is 1229 ha and about 589 families were displaced initially due to construction of the reservoir.
  • The Gross Command Area of the project is 57160 ha. The Culturable Command Area is 45730 ha, with 41960 ha in kharif and 18180 ha in Rabi.
  • The irrigated areas are located in Bonth, Bhadrak, Tihidi and Basudevpur blocks of Bhadrak district and Hatadihi Block of Keonjhar district. The portion of the project funded under OWRCP in SIFT component has a CCA of 11535 ha, out of which 10021 ha have been achieved till June 2003.
