Detailed description of project

Client

Watershed Development Department (Sujala Watershed Project), Government of Karnataka

Outcome

AFC has assumed overall responsibility of planning, implementation and monitoring of the IGA/ME component of the project in collaboration with the Sujala Secretariat. It has provided guidance to field functionaries of FNGOs through trainings and workshops both during the Pre-EDP and Post-EDP stages. AFC has conducted capacity building programmes for 800 SHG members opting for entrepreneurship development & management through conducting of Entrepreneurship Awareness Training Programmes (EAP), Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP), Skill Training, etc. Conducted Skill Specific Entrepreneurship Development (SEDP) Training Programmes to the selected SHG members (around 300 members). As Specialist Agency AFC has been providing necessary forward and backward support services including handholding services to trained entrepreneurs to establish their micro enterprises/group enterprises. The handholding involves counselling support, linkages to financial institutions and markets.

Project Name : Promoting IG Activities and Setting up Micro-Enterprises in Kushavathi River Sub-watershed (in Chikkabalapur DWDO Area), Gudibande Taluk, Kolar Dist – ongoing 2007-08

Brief Description : With the assistance of the World Bank, Watershed Development Department (WDD) is implementing a Comprehensive Watershed Development Project in Karnataka. The project aimed at reduction of soil erosion, increasing water availability, fodder productivity, vegetation improvement through forestry and horticulture activities, besides improvement of agricultural production through stakeholders’ involvement.

In order to involve the ‘vulnerable groups’ hitherto not covered under the project, the World Bank agreed to extend the assistance for promoting IG Activities and setting up of micro-enterprises in the project areas. The main focus is on empowering the vulnerable families to take-up income generation activities or to set-up micro-enterprises for improving the income vulnerable groups. AFC has been providing professional specialist services on entrepreneurial development sector.
