Dr.A J Shaikh is an Independent Director.He is a former Director, Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology. He holds a Doctoral Ph.D.(Science) from Mumbai University in Microbiology. He served in ICAR in various senior positions. Presently he is Hon. Secretary of Indian Society of Cotton Improvement, Mumbai and is also on the Editorial Board of Cotton Research Journal.
Dr.Shaikh has 40 years of research experiences in the field of post-harvest technologies of cotton and other natural fibres. He has handled more than 25 research projects of which two were funded by international agencies like Common Funds for Commodities, Netherlands. Developed several technologies in the field of Textiles, eco-friendly finishing of textiles, nano technology, value addition to cotton plant by- produce like cotton seed and cotton stalks. The research output clearly benefitted the cotton seed industry as well as particle board and hard board industry. The supply chain mechanism developed for cotton stalk has directly benefited farmers financially.
Dr.Shaikh has published more than 125 research publications in national and international journals. He has 6 patents to his credit and has authored 6 book chapters.
Dr.Shaikh is recipient of Dr.V.Santhanam’s Special Prize for Utilization of Cotton Plant By-produce for Value Added Products and Waste Utilization, awarded by Indian Society for Cotton Improvement in 2007.
